Summer nights on the exe

Something for everyone

If you’re on holiday at The Devon Spotted Pig, you can explore National Trust property Killerton, family days out at wonderful attractions such as Wildwood Escot, the South West Coast Path or – if you’re feeling in need of some adrenaline, try off-road driving at the West Country Land Rover Experience.

A haven for foodies

Foodies will love it here. In Ottery St Mary (within walking distance) you’ll find the acclaimed Rusty Pig feasting house, run by former River Cottage chef Robin Rea. We supply Robin with our free-range pork and can thoroughly recommend the cocktails, fun vibe and rustic charm of their ever-changing menu.

Our pork also finds its way onto the menu at The Pig at Combe, in nearby Gittisham. Here you can choose between the charming wood-panelled restaurant within the Elizabethan manor house or drop in to The Folly for wood-fired flatbreads and light eats. Much of the produce is sourced from their own walled gardens.

Fish is naturally a speciality in our part of the world and chef Mitch Tonks gets our vote for his super-fresh seafood at Rockfish on the beach front in Exmouth. You’ll never forget a meal at The River Exe Café, situated in the middle of the Exe Estuary on a large river barge, accessible by water taxi from Exmouth marina. Try to book in time for sunset over the water!

Family Holiday fossil hunting on the jurassic coast

The kids will love it too!

If you’re on a family holiday with children, you’ll be spoilt for choice for things to do. Wildwood Escot is a fun day out with adventure climbing frames, birds of prey, otters, a maze and authentic Anglo-Saxon village, set amid stately home parkland. Bicton Gardens has indoor soft play, outdoor play areas and a charming little train.

We’d also like to give a name-check to the Seaton Jurassic Centre, where you can learn all about the wonderful history, wildlife and fossils of the World Heritage Jurassic Coast, plus eat at the café – which we run! It’s rather good. While you’re there, hop on the Seaton Tramway for a quirky ride across the beautiful countryside to the pretty and historic town of Colyton.
